Issue No. 7 QUESTIONS

For the Questions issue we are turning our focus from the outside world and bringing it inward. Each day for 100 days we will step out into the world and meet with one person. We will ask each person we meet the same 12 questions. At the end of 100 days we hope to capture our collective voice within this interwoven web of dialog.

Day 61: Michael Lee Saurez

What do you do for a living?

I’m a tattoo artist.

What do you do to feel alive?

Tattooing, drawing, making art – just being an artist in general.

A lesson you learned from your mother:

Not to worry

A lesson you learned from your father:

I don’t really know my father. He’s not there. He’s a bad drunk. So I learned to not be a fuck up – I guess.

What’s the most beautiful thing you saw today?

The tattoo that I’m working on right now and I should say my girlfriend when I woke up so I don’t get in trouble.

What’s one thing you wouldn’t want anyone to take away from you?

My ability to draw and to be creative

What’s a thought you would like to never have again?

My aunt – I don’t want to go into it, but that’s my answer.

If you could become an inanimate object what would it be?

A lawnmower

When do you feel most loved?

Probably when I’m at home with my girlfriend and my dog cuddling and drinking some beers and watching TV.

If your life were to end tomorrow what would be left undone?

Fuck a lot! I don’t know dude, shit that’s crazy…everything! Everything man. All the things I need to draw. All the things I need to paint. All the people I want to meet; the goals I want to fulfill; the family I need to make – my legacy….little tattoo Mickeys!

What global issue would you take on if you didn’t have to worry about how?

Helping out the poor and hungry people in the world

What’s the scariest thing that ever happened to you?

Drowning/almost dying
