Issue No. 7 QUESTIONS

For the Questions issue we are turning our focus from the outside world and bringing it inward. Each day for 100 days we will step out into the world and meet with one person. We will ask each person we meet the same 12 questions. At the end of 100 days we hope to capture our collective voice within this interwoven web of dialog.

Day 23: Jen Toth

What do you do for a living?

I work for a nonprofit. We help fund reproductive services for low income women.

What do you do to feel alive?

I travel and I do yoga.

A lesson you learned from your mother:

My mother believes a lot about the value of hard work, taking pride in your work and dedicating yourself to what your passionate about. She also donates her time to service in her own genuine and authentic way. I follow that example in my life.

A lesson you learned from your father:

My father died when I was really young, but from what I remember he believed in education and really instilled that in me.

What’s the most beautiful thing you saw today?

Watching my partner connect with a puppy earlier today was amazing. He really loves animals. It was really heartening.

What’s one thing you wouldn’t want anyone to take away from you?

My values

What’s a thought you would like to never have again?

Worrying about the death of the people I love. I’m the oldest of 6 kids. Sometimes I’ll get calls from my mom at random times at night and I always fear something happened to one them. I guess I should learn to let that go because we are all going to die at some point.

If you could become an inanimate object what would it be?

Something you could cook with. I would like to be able to feed and nourish people.

When do you feel most loved?

I think when I have felt the most loved was with my grandmother. She’s the one who basically raised me. She passed away a few years ago, but whenever I was in her presence.

If your life were to end tomorrow what would be left undone?

A lot! Maybe too much to name here…Either a lot or nothing.

What global issue would you take on if you didn’t have to worry about how?

There’s a lot that I’m passionate about, but I think it would definitely be something related to sustainability and our use of resources.

What’s the scariest thing that ever happened to you?

The 1st thing that comes to mind was when one of my sister’s accidentally set her room on fire and I woke up to the house on fire. I was also in a car accident. That was pretty scary too.
